Partners’ Attachment Insecurity and Stress Predict Poorer Relationship Functioning During COVID-19 Quarantines

The COVID-19 pandemic presents acute, ongoing relationship challenges. current research tested how (1) preexisting vulnerabilities assessed prior to the (attachment insecurity) and (2) stress as couples endured a mandated quarantine predicted residual changes in functioning. Controlling for prequarantine problems, quality, family environment, greater partners’ attachment anxiety lower less stable cohesive environment when people were experiencing more stress. Greater avoidance problem-solving efficacy cohesion. effects of pandemic-related demonstrate utility key models science identifying who is at most risk problems unprecedented context quarantine. results emphasize that on functioning will be shaped by characteristics partners with whom are confined during pandemic.
